Inside the House Beautiful Tour of My Brookline Victorian

I am humbled by the incredible response to my recent House Beautiful Instagram Live tour. Since then there have been so many questions from viewers about the four-story renovation and resources I employed renovating an 1878 house.

Beyond revealing the brands and color paint colors here, I’m also sharing the story of how I have updated family heirlooms and found treasures along the way. I hope it inspires you in your design journey!

First, if you missed the house tour, check it out here: HB IGTV Home tour. There is also an additional video of my dining room and some photos of the stories behind the story. By far, the most common questions were about paint colors, lighting and wallpaper. It was also so nice to hear how much people loved all of the color, personality and fun in my home.

Here are the answers to some questions and stories:

In my entry hall, the walls are Super White by Benjamin Moore and Pitch Black by Farrow and Ball. The lights are Sky Garden by Flos. The sofa I found on Facebook marketplace. See how it looked when I purchased it. So much more fun after I recovered the front in Butterfly Parade by Christian Lacroix.

For my master bedroom, the wall color is Studio Green by Farrow and Ball, the light is Nelson Bubble Lamp. The dresser we had custom made by Peter Deeble Furniture and we even got to visit him while he was making it in his garage.

The leather chair in my bedroom is from my husband’s father’s father and was purchased in the highlands of Ecuador in the 1960’s. I found it on 1st Dibs, it was made by Angel Pazmino and I love it because it has no nails- only wooden pegs. My upholsterer is Ecuadorian and he was delighted to put on a new leather seat and back.

My bedroom bathroom was inspired by all of the wonderful trips my husband and I have taken. Here is the photo from my honeymoon of the pool at the hotel in Cambodia that inspired the tile of the shower.

My office also has a Nelson Bubble lamp and an Eames chair. The wallpaper is from Hygee and West. The wall light is by Allied Maker, a fabulous lighting brand from Long Island. Here is the maker of my light:

The desk chair in my office is also an old treasure that I grew up with and have taken with me to various homes and painted it many times. My parents bought it in 1973 from a very high end furniture store in Brooklyn when they moved to their first house. It was orange then. I love this photo of me, my mom and sister with the orange bamboo chair.

And my sons in the chair during its red years:

My lower garden level has a tropical feel to keep warm during long Boston winters. The wallpaper in the teen lounge is Miami by Cole and Son, which brought back pre-kid memories for my husband and I of fun we had in South Beach. Here we are at the Delano Hotel.

And finally, I noted the Sarreid brass chests in my living room were in my parents' house when I was growing up. Here you can see one of them in their original location and how I have given them a new life. You can find one here on Chairish

My home reflects who I am, where we’ve been and where we’re going. This story -- or layers of storytelling -- are at the heart of the home, and home design. I feel grateful to be able to share it with all of you.
