Country Cottage
Cottage cozy was the name of the game for this 1886 Colonial in the Fairmont Hill Historic District in Brookline, Mass. We drew from the rich color palette in their existing oil painting collection to create moody rooms that are comfortable and elevated, and perfectly set within the natural landscape in a neighborhood where famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olstead once lived. Here we dreamed of the English countryside when choosing the tartan plaids, florals and geometric fabrics in both the living room and family room. A mix of modern lighting, global rugs, traditional sofa frames and mid century danish chairs complete the eclectic and very warm, cozy and dramatic feel.
We renovated an original primary bathroom for modern living into soothing lavender grey, a nice light retreat from the richly painted rooms on the first floor.
